Collection: Air Sentry X-Series Desiccant Breathers

Air Sentry X-Series desiccant breathers are built for high-humidity and high-dust environments such as paper mills, wash-down areas, and mine quarries. Dual check valves keep the breather sealed until airflow is needed, extending desiccant life, and a reusable top cap means you only replace the cartridge.

Air Sentry X-Series Desiccant Breathers: Features & Model Guide

Built for High Humidity and High Dust

In humid or dusty environments, a standard desiccant breather is constantly exposed to moist, contaminated air, even when the equipment isn't breathing. The desiccant saturates quickly and needs frequent replacement. X-Series breathers solve this with two check valves that keep the breather closed until airflow is actually required, so the desiccant only works when it needs to.

How the Check Valves Work

  • Intake check valve: allows air into the breather only when the pressure difference between the atmosphere and the fluid reservoir exceeds 0.1 psi.
  • Exhaust check valve: lets air exit the reservoir when the pressure difference exceeds 2.0 psi. A 0.1-psi exhaust check valve is also available.

Because the breather stays sealed between breathing cycles, the desiccant is protected from ambient humidity, extending its service life and reducing maintenance costs.

Key Features

  • Dual check valves create a closed system until airflow is needed.
  • Reusable top cap. Replace only the desiccant cartridge, not the entire breather.
  • Color-changing silica gel: the gold silica gel turns dark green as it adsorbs moisture, showing at a glance when it's time for a new cartridge.
  • Multiple connection options: slip fit, MNPT, and FNPT models to match your equipment.

Common Applications

  • Paper mills
  • Wash-down areas
  • Steam-cleaning rooms
  • Mine quarries

For high-vibration applications such as wind turbines and mining equipment, see our XR-Series desiccant breathers. For stationary equipment in standard conditions, see the D-Series, or browse the full range of Air Sentry desiccant breathers.

X-Series Model Guide

X-Series breathers come in a compact model and two standard heights, with a choice of connection types. [Add one sentence explaining the difference between the 100 and 500 model numbers.]

Compact model:

  • X-100: 3.25" dia. x 6.25" tall, 1/2" FNPT

7" tall models (5" dia.):

  • X-101: 1" slip fit
  • X-501: 1" slip fit
  • X-103: 1" MNPT
  • X-503: 1" MNPT
  • X-121: 2" MNPT
  • X-521: 2" MNPT

10" tall models (5" dia.):

  • X-102: 1" slip fit
  • X-502: 1" slip fit
  • X-105: 1" MNPT
  • X-505: 1" MNPT
  • X-122: 2" MNPT
  • X-522: 2" MNPT

Taller breathers hold more desiccant, so they last longer between cartridge changes. They're a good choice for larger reservoirs and gearboxes or for the wettest environments.

When to Replace the Cartridge

Check the silica gel regularly. Once it has changed from gold to dark green, it has reached its moisture capacity. Install a new replacement cartridge on the reusable top cap to keep your equipment protected.
