Air Sentry's Premium Breather Series
Guardian is Air Sentry's industry-leading desiccant breather series. Its key advantage is how it handles airflow. Incoming air passes through the filter and desiccant, while exhaust air from the reservoir is vented directly to atmosphere instead of flowing back through the breather. Because the desiccant only treats incoming air, Air Sentry reports that Guardian breathers can last 60–70% longer on some systems.
When there is no airflow, check valves keep ambient air away from the desiccant, extending its life even further.
Key Features
- High airflow: 25 cfm of inlet air and over 150 cfm of exhaust airflow.
- 2-micron particle filtration on every Guardian model.
- Check valves in the top cap and base open at 0.1 psi, sealing the breather between breathing cycles and routing exhaust air around the desiccant.
- Tritan housing: a patented material with excellent impact, chemical, and temperature resistance.
- Replaceable cartridge. Replace only the center cartridge, not the whole breather, which lowers replacement costs and waste.
- Color-changing silica gel turns from gold to dark green when it's time for a new cartridge.
- Aluminum mounting insert in the base allows thread sealant for a strong, watertight seal.
Optional Features
- Isolation check valve (models ending in C): isolates the desiccant from exhaust air, protecting it from oil mist, vapors, and splashing fluids.
- Compound indicating gauge (models with G): a vacuum/pressure gauge built into the breather that shows filter condition on both intake and exhaust.
Guardian Breathers for Diesel Fuel
Guardian is the only Air Sentry breather series recommended for diesel fuel applications. It is not recommended for other fuels. For diesel, the breather must be equipped with an isolation check valve, so choose a model whose number ends in C.
How to Read Guardian Model Numbers
Every Guardian model number describes its configuration. Using G8S2NGC as an example:
- G5, G8, or G12: cartridge length (5", 8", or 12")
- S: silica gel desiccant
- 1N, 2N, or 1B: mounting connection (1" NPT, 2" NPT, or 1" BSP)
- G: compound indicating gauge
- C: isolation check valve
So the G8S2NGC has an 8" silica gel cartridge, a 2" NPT connection, a compound gauge, and an isolation check valve. The G12S1B has a 12" cartridge and a 1" BSP connection, with no gauge or check valve. A longer cartridge holds more desiccant and lasts longer between replacements.

Guardian breathers can be extended with accessories such as the Guardian Shield wash-down cap, which keeps wind, rain, and high-pressure spray from opening the check valves; a high-capacity HEPA air filter; and the Modular Stack Ring for stacking cartridges for even longer life.
